South Yarra is experiencing an apartment construction boom with 13 major apartment developments currently under construction.
As reported by Urban Melbourne, South Yarra is now only second to Melbourne CBD in the number of projects under construction.
According to the Urban Melbourne Project Database, these projects are delivering 1,784 new dwelling, with an assumption that this means approximately 3,500 additional residents in the area.
The centre of South Yarra’s success is Forrest Hill, which was earmarked as an urban renewal precinct in 2005 and has seen construction steadily rise since.
Seven of the current 13 major developments are located in Forrest Hill, including Lucia/Chiara and Central South Yarra, which make up 782 of the total apartments under construction.
While the current level of construction is skyrocketing in South Yarra, the next wave of projects heading toward construction is also impressive. Of those apartment projects at registrations or sales, the list is headlined by LK Property’s Capitol Grand, which at 193 metres in height would be South Yarra’s signature built form.
